frequently asked questions
What can I expect during my first visit?
Upon arrival, we will greet you at the office entrance and you will be shown into a treatment room, where your acupuncturist will review your health history and learn about your health and wellness goals.
Your initial visit may last anywhere from 60-80 minutes, as it includes a comprehensive patient evaluation and treatment.
The initial questioning is a very important part of the care your acupuncturist can provide to you. While some of the questions may seem irrelevant to your condition, they are essential to provide you with truly holistic care. The answers you provide to these questions, along with other diagnostic tools allow your acupuncturist to tailor the treatment specifically to you.
Based on your diagnosis, your acupuncturist will place carefully selected acupuncture points that relate to your overall condition. Needles may be in place for 15-30 minutes; during this time people often feel relaxed and may even fall asleep.
After the treatment, we will discuss your individualized treatment plan, including treatment frequency and any other modalities that may be beneficial for you. This may include electro stimulation, heat therapy/moxibustion, cupping, gua sha, abdominal massage, tuina massage, dietary therapy, lifestyle and behavior education, breathing techniques, exercise or other complementary therapies.
Since treatments are highly individualized, your treatment plan may be modified over time, to ensure the most appropriate care that is tailored to your healing process.

What conditions do you treat?
Acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine are appropriate for those seeking alternative care, as well as those seeking to enhance an existing treatment plan with a medical doctor. For more detail regarding treatment options, please visit our treatments page.
How should I prepare for my first visit?
It's recommended that you arrive in loose, comfortable clothing that allows for access to your knees, elbows, and, in some cases, your back. It is best to consider where you may be experiencing pain and wear clothing that allows access to that area.
It is also recommended to eat a light meal a few hours prior to your treatment. Please bring a list of your current medications, supplements, and any recent x-rays, blood work, or other medical tests that are relevant to your health concerns.

If you have acupuncture coverage through your insurance policy, we would be happy to provide you with a superbill that can be submitted directly to your plan for reimbursement to you.
It is important to first call your insurance company to see if your policy covers acupuncture; not all insurance companies cover a full course of acupuncture treatments and may have stipulations for the conditions covered. In addition, deductibles, copayment, or other applicable fees may be involved depending on your insurance policy.
