Joyce K. Acupuncture // Glendale, AZ

By Joyce Kawalchuk, L.Ac.
Joyce K. Acupuncture | Glendale, AZ
Hi there, I'm Joyce K.
I'm a Licensed Acupuncturist and New York native who recently relocated to sunny Arizona. Want to know more about me? Great! I'd love to know more about you too.
What do acupuncture, small engine mechanics and sewing all have in common? Well, me!

Let me explain- these three things have a lot more in common than you might initially think.

Being born and raised in the Hudson Valley region of NY, I was strongly influenced by nature from a very young age. The woods, mountains, rivers and lakes created an environment that nourished my penchant for analyzing systems and learning how individual parts functioned to make up a greater whole. All throughout, I always had a passion for biology, which I continued to pursue in my undergraduate education.

Fun fact: I spent over 18 years deconstructing and reconstruction small engines in my father's machine shop. Talk about fascination with systems!

Around the same time that I was working as a mechanic, I was introduced to sewing in the form of garment making. This skill helped to expand my understanding of form and manipulation, as well as multidimensional construction. After all, human mobility and functionality relies heavily on our fascia system (fascia is literally the fabric of our lives...not cotton).

You might be thinking... "but, you're an acupuncturist, right?"- YES! Well, what do all of these seemingly unrelated life choices have in common? MY HANDS. My hands are my greatest gift, and they have allowed me to take action and continuously make a difference in people's lives. They have allowed me facilitate creative expression in myself and others, whether it be through engine mechanics, garment making, or physical medicine.

But why acupuncture?

Possibilities with acupuncture seem endless.
Acupuncture blends medicine, science, art, philosophy and refinement into one beautiful health care profession. It is flexible, portable and, most of all, effective. Acupuncture is able to make a large impact with relatively minimal invasiveness, and that's something that I think we could always use a bit more of.

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine help to bridge a gap in modern health care and place emphasis on the individual, rather than symptoms. This is done through the placement of very fine needles to help reorient and reactivate your body's natural ability to heal. Acupuncture does not add or take away anything from your system, it simply and gently reorganizes what is already within you.

I could go on and on, but let this serve as an introduction to me and my profession here in Glendale, AZ. If you have any questions, please send me an email! I'd love to hear from you.
